FCC Public Notice

Date: Tuesday, September 30, 2014
Description: FCC Seeks Comment on Sprint Petition for a Limited Waiver for Access to the TRS Numbering Database for Federal Relay Service use

On August 27, 2014, the FCC released a Public Notice seeking comment on a petition filed by Sprint requesting that the FCC waive a rule restriction in order to allow Sprint to load telephone numbers for using Federal Relay Service in the Internet-based Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) Numbering Directory.  Sprint states that allowing Federal Relay Service’s toll-free and ten-digit numbers to be put into the numbering database will: (1) allow federal employees who are deaf and hard-of-hearing to make and receive point-to-point video calls; (2) increase the ability of Americans who are deaf and hard-of-hearing to reach federal employees, and (3) reduce the number of calls that must be supported by the FCC’s Interstate TRS Fund.
